Mt. Toll Climb/Snowboard 9

This is the last photo from Toll. We are shushing down the lower snowfield here.

One of my friends informed me that someone was hurt ("fell off") on Mt. Toll today (Sunday) - the day after our climb. They may have died, I don't know. The drops on the north and east of the summit are substantial, 500 ft or more.

We are descending the upper snowfield here. I've circled us; Ben is the upper circle. He's glissading on some contraption of his while I am boarding, of course.

Ascending the upper snowfield from Ben's camera. On our descent we would pop out of the chute above me on the left.

Now the upper snowfield. Near the top of this field we bailed into the talus field on the left and continued to the summit.

Devon was the photographer for most of the rest of these photos; he had the dogs. Ben and I ascended on the route that is marked in red. The snow conditions were quite variable. The lower snowfield was like butter on my board though; the upper field was very choppy with lots of wind ridges.

Mt. Toll Climb/Snowboard 2

Ben and I just below treeline. Mt. Toll is now completely visible, though the clouds are still dissipating above it. You can just make out the snowfield that we are about to ascend.

Mt. Neva Climb/Snowboard 7

Mission accomplished.

Mt. Neva Climb/Snowboard 6

It opens up quite a bit after the rock bands. Moving pretty fast here.

Mt. Neva Climb/Snowboard 5

After summiting, the trick was to descend through these rock bands unscathed. It looks wide open from this perspective; from above however, it is hard to tell where the chutes are.

My route to the summit here is Juliet Couloir; you can make me out in the center of the photo. Juliet is above and a little to the right. The snow was very soft at this point, which, of course, made things all the harder.

My eventual descent route is to left.

Mt. Neva is in the background; John and Darren are in the foreground.

This is Darren and I at the trailhead. John is taking the photo.

My goal on this hike was to summit Mt. Neva and then snowboard down. Obviously, carrying all of the gear is the major challenge here.
